There are 168 known species of ants in Alabama. Ants
found in the Jefferson and Shelby County areas include the pavement ant, yellow crazy ant, sugar
ants, the Pharaoh ant, carpenter ants, Argentine Ants, odorous house
ants and red imported fire ants. Because of the
adaptive nature of ant colonies, eliminating the entire colony is nearly
