Providing Quality Service to families in Jefferson & Shelby Counties since 1993.
During these cold
winter months including bouts of warm weather, seasonal pests
will often find their way inside your home.
The most common of these are the House Mouse. The House Mouse weighs
up to an ounce
,
is gray in color and is three to four inches long. Adult droppings are
1/8 to 1/4 inch long and rod-shaped with pointed ends. A female House
Mouse can produce an average of 30 to 35 offspring per year. They can
squeeze through holes and gaps as little as 1/4 of an inch. The major
health risks associated with house mice are salmonella contamination and
leptospirosis.
When temperatures fall below
freezing, ants will also take the opportunity to come inside your home.
There are several species. Of the most co
mmon
are Thief Ants. They are very tiny at no more than 1/16 of an inch
long and yellow to light brown in color. They prefer food with high
protein content but will also feed on sugary foods. You will sometimes
find them in bathrooms around sinks and showers. They can also be
found in kitchen areas around sinks and stoves.
